Sen Remi Tinubu appeals for peace in Plateau
From Tongnaan Bawa in Jos
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has made a passionate appeal for peace in Plateau State, promising that her latest humanitarian visit will be her last connected to crisis response in the region.
Speaking at the government house, Rayfield in Jos on Thursday, she expressed deep sorrow over ongoing ethno-religious violence that has displaced thousands.
Senator Tinubu delivered a heartfelt address focused on unity, healing, and a future beyond violence, urging leaders to reflect on the legacy they are building.
She appealed to men to protect women and children, who are most vulnerable during crises, saying, “Women do not carry arms. We do not fight. But we are asking you, our men, to protect us, to ensure that our children can live in peace.”
A one billion naira donation was made through her Renewed Hope Initiative to support displaced persons and rebuild vulnerable communities, sourced from private fundraising efforts.
The First Lady also expressed her desire to return to Plateau someday to enjoy its natural beauty and rich culture, not to give aid, and urged traditional leaders to take their roles seriously in fostering reconciliation
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang
welcomed the First Lady warmly, praising her compassion and clarity of purpose.
He reiterated his commitment to building a unified Plateau, stating that the First Lady’s visit strengthens his resolve to guide the state toward healing and harmony .
