Shettima Urges Kwankwasiyya, Gandujiyya Factions to End Political Rivalry for Kano’s Progress
Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on political factions in Kano State, particularly members of the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya movements, to put aside their differences for the greater good of the state.
Shettima made the appeal during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sunusi. Present at the gathering were Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano APC Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, and other key political figures from both camps.
The Vice President emphasized the importance of unity in Kano, a state he described as politically strategic and influential in Northern Nigeria.
“It is a mistake for a state like Kano, known for its political importance, to be divided due to partisan conflict,” Shettima said. “Kano is a model for the entire country. When political disagreements surface here, they affect not just Kano but the whole North.”
To emphasize the sincerity of his message, Shettima spoke in Hausa, saying he wanted his words to resonate clearly with the people, despite not being a native speaker.
He also offered prayers for the late Galadiman Kano, asking God to grant him eternal rest in paradise.
In addition, the Vice President sympathized with the families of victims of recent bandit attacks in Shanono, including those who were abducted and those who lost their lives.
“We pray for peace, not just in Kano but across Nigeria,” he concluded.
The visit comes at a time of growing political tension in Kano, as rival factions continue to jostle for influence ahead of future elections.
