State Commissioners Meet in Abuja to Advance Women and Child Welfare Policies

Commissioners from State Ministries of Women Affairs across Nigeria convened in Abuja from March 3 to 5, 2025, for the 2nd Annual Conference of Commissioners of State Ministries of Women Affairs.

The high-level gathering focused on strengthening laws and policies aimed at improving the welfare of women, children, and persons with disabilities nationwide.

Discussions at the conference centered on child protection, social welfare, disability rights, and the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act.

Experts and government officials examined strategies for enhancing legal frameworks and ensuring the effective enforcement of existing policies.

Among the participating state delegations was Kano State, led by Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled.

She was joined by Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, Technical Adviser; Alhaji Muttaka Iliyasu, Permanent Secretary; Hajiya Bilkisu Sha’fiu, Director of Women; and Hajiya Hauwa Suleiman, Director of Child Affairs.

The conference served as a crucial platform for state governments to exchange best practices and reaffirm their commitment to advancing social protection policies across Nigeria.
