State of Emergency: Tinubu Saved Rivers from Collapse – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, revealing that he had personally sought the removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking on Friday in Abuja during a media parley with select journalists, Wike said the political crisis that had rocked Rivers for months necessitated decisive intervention. According to him, Tinubu’s decision to suspend Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the House of Assembly was a necessary step to prevent a total breakdown of governance in the oil-rich state.
“The state was heading for implosion. The president’s intervention saved Rivers,” Wike said, adding that the appointment of a sole administrator was the right move under the circumstances.
Wike, a former governor of the state, maintained that strong action was needed to restore order and protect the interests of the people of Rivers.
