From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna

The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has been urged to step up its efforts to curb fire outbreaks in buildings by ensuring that only quality electrical appliances are sold in the country.

The call was made by Chief Anthony Abiakam, Chairman and CEO of Tonex Integrated Resources Limited, while receiving an award from Dome Magazine in Kaduna.

Chief Abiakam said that SON should ensure that all electrical appliances sold in the country meet the required standards. He noted that many fire outbreaks in buildings are caused by the use of substandard electrical appliances.

“You can see someone will spend millions of Naira in building his House but due to the using of substandard electrical product, the house will just got bound. So there is need for the regulatory body to ensure the use of quality electrical appliances in all our buildings,” he said.

Chief Abiakam also urged Nigerians to stop patronizing fake products, not only electrical appliances but all building materials. He said that people should buy quality products to ensure the safety of their homes and families.

Earlier, the Chief Publisher of Dome Magazine, Dr. Sani Garba, said that Chief Anthony Abiakam was recognized for his commitment to selling quality products and providing humanitarian assistance to society.

Dr. Garba called on all Nigerians to ensure that they use quality electrical products in their homes and offices to avoid fire outbreaks. He also urged SON to live up to its mandate of checking fake products and ensuring that only quality products are sold in the country.
