Supreme Court Judgement: Police Commends Kano Residents’ Peaceful Reactions

The Kano State Police Command has commended residents of the state for their peaceful conduct in the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgement that affirmed the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The state Commissioner of Police, Usaini Mohammed Gumel,made the commendation while addressing newsmen in his office on Friday.

Gumel said the command was impressed by the peaceful conduct of the residents in their reactions to the Supreme Court verdict.

He said the people of the state had cooperated with security agencies before, during and after the judgement which he said had contributed to the attainment of the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

“Kano people have been a wonderful people and with this feat I am optimistic that Kano is likely going to be one of most peaceful states in Nigeria,”the Commissioner said.

He then attributed the successes the command had been recording in the maintenance of peace,law and order in the state to community partnership and crime prevention strategies.

Other factors attributable to the feat he said, are:good collaboration with sister security agencies such as the Military,the DSS, Immigration Service,the Correctional Service, the Customs Service and the Roads Safety Corps.

Gumel said the command’s excellent engagements with traditional and religious institutions and the media were also part of the success story.

He assured that all police formations in the state would sustain vigilance to ensure that subsequent celebrations of the Supreme Court judgement were done devoid of any recklessness.

He then urged the people of the state to continue to obey the law so as to sustain the existing peace and security of lives and property in the state.
