SWODEN Trains Jigawa Traditional/Religious Leaders, Tea Sellers On Gender Mainstreaming

The Society for Women Development and Empowerment of Nigerian (SWODEN) with support from Nutrition International has trained one hundred male motivators on Gender Mainstreaming in Jigawa state.

Speaking during the training, the project officer of Society for Women Development and Empowerment of Nigerian (SWODEN) Lawan Bako Ahmad said the training took place at Jahun and Kiyawa centres on Tuesday and Wednesday.

He explained that, the 100 Male motivators, comprised traditional leaders, Tea sellers, religious leaders and other community Organization leaders

Bako said, the aims of the training is to help the participants on strategies for Gender awareness and community sensitization for Behavior change interventions.

The project officer who said, two male motivators were identified from each wards of the five selected local governments, added that the training equipped them with knowledge on how to sensitizes husbands on their roles and responsibilities on the BCI and Gender mainstreaming project.

He explained that, as part of the objectives of the training is to reduce the maternal mortality and morbidity through increase habits of ANC attendance and uptake of Iron Folid Acid by the pregnant women.

While responding to our reporter, one of the participants as well as the traditional leader of Dogon Gida village Sale Gambo, promised to do all their best to stepdown the sensitization to his people.

Another participant and also a  Tea seller  Malam Mohd Abdullahi from Yayari-Cakauri village area of Buji local government commended the efforts of Nutritional International, and promised to deliver the sensitization to his customers.
