By Nasir Abdullahi
The Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), Mallam Ma’amun Ali, has dismissed rumors about the structural failure of the Tiga Dam in Kano.
Speaking to newsmen during a routine inspection of the dam on Sunday, he reassured the public of the dam’s safety.
“We are here to debunk the rumors circulating about the integrity of the dam,” Mallam Ali stated.
“The dam crest and embankment are in a healthy condition.”
He emphasized that the recent rainfall predictions had prompted concern, but reassured that there was no cause for alarm.
“We expect a mild flow at the end of the month, and after thorough inspections, everything is in perfect condition.”
Mallam Ali urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that the situation at Tiga Dam is under control.
“The public should be patient and calm, as we are not expecting what happened in Maiduguri to occur here,” he said, referencing recent flooding incidents in other parts of the country. “We are doing our best, and God is in control.”
He also cautioned the surrounding communities against encroaching on the dam area for farming, noting that such activities could lead to unwanted overflow or spills.
