Tinubu Mocks Opposition, Rules Out One-Party State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ruled out the possibility of Nigeria turning into a one-party state under his leadership—but says he’s enjoying the chaos within the opposition.

Speaking at a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday during the Democracy Day celebration, Tinubu took a swipe at opposition parties, saying he sees no need to offer them any advice.

“It is better to witness them in such a disarray,” the president said, drawing laughter from the chamber.

While emphasizing that political diversity is essential, Tinubu defended the steady stream of defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying shutting the door on new members would amount to “political malpractice.”

“Nigeria will not become a one-party state. A one-party state is not in the offing. But we will be doing political malpractice if we close the doors for those who want to join APC,” he stated.
