Tinubu Mourns Renowned Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of prominent Islamic leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 101.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood as a “moral compass” who dedicated his life to teaching, preaching, and promoting peace.

President Tinubu said the revered cleric’s passing is a monumental loss not only to his family and thousands of followers across West Africa but also to the nation at large. He recalled the blessings and moral support he received from Sheikh Bauchi during the 2023 election period.

“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father, and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Qur’an, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” the President stated.

Tinubu extended his condolences to the Tijjaniyya community and admirers of the late scholar, urging them to honour his legacy by upholding his teachings on peaceful coexistence, devotion to God, and kindness to humanity.

The President prayed for the repose of the scholar’s soul.
