Tinubu Urges Political Leaders to Put the Poor and Vulnerable First

President Bola Tinubu has urged political leaders across the country to focus their policies and resources on improving the lives of the poor and vulnerable.

Speaking on Monday night at the State House in Abuja, during a Ramadan fast-breaking event with governors, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Service Chiefs, and top government officials, the President emphasized the need for selfless leadership and people-centered governance.

“I thank you all for responding to this invitation. You honoured it out of respect, not because you don’t have enough to eat or share,” President Tinubu remarked.

The President praised ongoing government policies that have started to yield positive economic and social results, attributing the success of economic reforms to the collective efforts of both federal and state leaders.

“In our first FEC meeting, I said we were going to work hard to fetch water from a dry well. We are still working hard to ensure that there is water to drink and that we spend money, not the people. You, the leaders at the subnational levels, are also doing all you can to spend money, not the people,” he stated.

President Tinubu called on leaders to work with the future in mind, ensuring they leave a lasting positive legacy.

“Look at yourselves as navigators that will bring the country to the promised land. Standing here as President is a great honour, and you can’t trade it. Continue doing what you are doing, and do more for the people,” he urged.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, expressed appreciation for the President’s bold economic reforms. Similarly, Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, highlighted the significance of both Muslims and Christians fasting at the same time, emphasizing unity.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, also noted that the government’s reforms were stabilizing food prices and improving livelihoods.

The event underscored the administration’s commitment to addressing economic challenges and ensuring that governance benefits all Nigerians, particularly those in need.
