Top General Nursing Graduate of November 2023: A Tribute to Nafisa Nura
By Ahmad Deedat, RN.
Today, I am writing yet another celebratory tribute to one of our own. Recently, penning a tribute has taken a backseat, but 2025 comes across as compelling. Nurses consistently blaze the trails. We had the 1st inaugural Kano Nurses and Midwives’ Connect, which is coupled with the emergence of an elderly colleague to the velvety height of a certified global nurse consultant a few days after. Today I’m penning in honor of Nafisa Nura, RN, the best graduating student in general nursing, November 2023. However, her accomplishment was accorded the fame of the ‘unsung hero’.
I don’t know Nafisa from Adam, but I reached out to congratulate and told her my plans of writing to celebrate her success, to which she was indifferent. A cacophony of warning resonated within me that she would have kicked against my congratulatory tribute, because it’s obvious that Nafisa is not given to stage light and ‘razzmatazz’.
Her accomplishment as the best graduating nursing student in Nigeria is not a coincidence. She worked for it and she earned it. It is a testament to the power of her hardwork, resilience, and perseverance.
As the pioneer overaller, she fetched fame and respect for the good people of Kano State. She inspires awe and admiration that is worthy of emulation among her peers and the untested prospects. Additionally, Nafisa’s success has demonstrated the transformative impact of nursing education in the state.
However, since 2023, Nafisa is in a seemingly boundless delay. Despite her distinguished achievement, Nafisa is yet to secure a job appointment with the state government. Nafisa has brought distinction and honor to Kano State in nursing education. Her success will continue to inspire generations. Therefore, we urge the government to absorb Nafisa into service and sponsor her to pursue advanced qualifications as reward for what she has achieved, and motivation for aspiring minds.
Congratulations professional colleagues. You have done the impossible. We look forward to celebrating more of your successes.
