Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 12 Brigade deployed at Oguma Forward Operating Base have successfully rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ransom money meant for their release in Kogi State.
In a statement posted on the official X handle of the Nigerian Army on Monday, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, said the operation took place on 2 November 2025 following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis and reports from relatives of the victims.
“The operation which led to the rescue of the victims took place on 2 November 2025, following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis, as well as reports of relatives of some of the victims attempting to deliver ransom to secure their release. Troops acted swiftly on the information and projected a patrol to Achigili Forest to intercept the bandits,” the statement read.
According to the statement, while en route to the location, the troops came under fire from the terrorists. However, the soldiers responded with superior firepower, leading to an exchange of gunfire that forced the bandits to flee into the forest with severe gunshot wounds, abandoning two victims along with the ransom money.
“Following the encounter, the troops rescued the victims and recovered the sum of ₦3,800,000 (three million, eight hundred thousand naira) intended for ransom payment,” the statement added.
The rescued victims, who are currently in safe custody before being handed over to the appropriate authorities, were immediately debriefed to aid further operations. The recovered cash was also returned to them.
The Nigerian Army urged members of the public to continue supporting its efforts and those of other security agencies by providing credible and timely information to aid in combating criminal activities.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute and unwavering in its determination to protect lives and property,” the statement concluded.
