The United States Mission in Nigeria has expressed its condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Imam Abubakar Abdullahi, who passed away on January 15.
In a statement, the Mission described Imam Abdullahi as a fearless advocate for religious tolerance with a long record of outreach across religious communities in Nigeria.
The U.S. Mission recalled that the United States Department of State formally recognised Imam Abdullahi with the 2019 International Religious Freedom Award for his courageous actions in June 2018, when he helped save the lives of hundreds of Christians during attacks in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.
According to the Mission, Imam Abdullahi’s humanity exemplified interfaith coexistence and harmony, adding that his legacy of peace and acceptance will continue to inspire Nigerians and Americans alike.
The Mission extended its sympathies to all those mourning his passing and commended his lifelong commitment to peace and mutual understanding.
