UNICEF praises Kano Governor for commitment to education

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for his commitment to improving the education sector.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa and made available to journalists in Kano on Friday.

According to the statement, the commendation came during a meeting at the Kano Government House on Thursday,

UNICEF Country Director Mrs. Christain Munduate praised the ongoing partnership between UNICEF and Kano State.

She emphasized the importance of strengthening this collaboration to achieve greater benefits and opportunities for both parties.

Mrs. Munduate highlighted UNICEF’s steadfast support for Kano State in the Health and Education sectors, stressing the need for the state to meet its counterpart funding obligations for the Malnutrition project.

“UNICEF remains committed to supporting Kano State in these crucial sectors,” she said.

In his response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf called for increased support from UNICEF and other donor agencies, identifying Education and Health as critical areas requiring additional assistance.

“Education and Health are fundamental to societal progress, and we need more support to enhance these sectors,” he stated.

Governor Yusuf also identified Malnutrition and poliomyelitis as urgent health issues impacting children and vulnerable groups.

He detailed his administration’s achievements in education, including providing essential infrastructure, modern classrooms, teacher training programs, and fostering a conducive learning environment.

In the healthcare sector, Governor Yusuf emphasized efforts to provide free medical services for women and children, renovate hospitals, and equip healthcare facilities.

“We are committed to ensuring that our healthcare facilities are well-equipped to serve our people,” he assured.

Governor Yusuf further pledged to increase Kano State’s counterpart funding contribution for the Malnutrition project, promising to surpass the contributions of neighboring Jigawa State.

“We are dedicated to tackling malnutrition and will double our funding efforts compared to Jigawa State,” he added.
