UNICEF Visits Yobe, Promises Continued Support for Education Sector

A team from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Borno D Field Office visited Nguru Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) to assess the impact of ongoing education programs and discuss further collaboration.
The visit, led by Dr. Yusuf Isma’il, Education Specialist, aimed to strengthen the partnership between UNICEF and LGEA in improving the quality of education in Nguru. Accompanying Dr. Isma’il were Mallam Mustapha Shehu, Education Officer, Mallam Garba Muhammad Umar, UNICEF facilitator, and Engr. Aminu Hamza.
Welcoming the team, the Acting Education Secretary, Mallam Hamisu Ado Nguru, expressed appreciation for the existing relationship and the positive impact of UNICEF-supported programs like Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) on learning outcomes for students.
He emphasized the need to sustain the momentum and requested the redeployment of local government employees with teaching qualifications back to the LGEA to further enhance teaching and learning.
The UNICEF team leader praised the LGEA for its efforts and encouraged them to continue building on the progress made. They also pledged continued support for the LGEA’s education initiatives, including offering refresher training for teachers returning to the classroom.
Alh. Madu Kachalla, the Nguru Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman, endorsed the education secretary’s request and promised to facilitate the redeployment of qualified personnel. He also welcomed UNICEF’s commitment to providing training for teachers.
