UNIJOS Abuja liaison office, guest house re-opens after extensive renovation

After undergoing extensive renovation to upgrade its facilities, the University of Jos Abuja Liaison Office and Guest House has been re-opened. The Duplex which consists of several rooms, a reception, kitchen, dining facilities and an annex was given a facelift in order to improve the services being rendered to its customers.

The Guest House located at Number Nine, Obosi Street, off Ogidi Street, Garki 2, Abuja also houses the University’s Abuja Liaison Office which equally enjoyed extensive refurbishment.

Performing the handing-over ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya said he is delighted that the premises is being re-opened for business and other activities after the extended period taken to complete the renovation.

Professor Tanko observed that the temporary closure had been a cause for some inconvenience to the University Staff who patronize the facility anytime they are on official assignment to Abuja as well as other customers, noting that he also had to operate from a different location whenever he was on official visit to Abuja.

In a statement signed by Abdullahi Abdullahi, senior Deputy Registrar Information  and publication of the institution said, the VC commended the humility exhibited by the Project Contractors in accepting responsibility for the delay in completing the Project and advised them to ensure that all the pending installations are fixed on time.

The Vice-Chancellor gave approval for the facility to be put to use immediately to enable the Guest House and Liaison office commence operations seamlessly.

Earlier while briefing the Vice-Chancellor on the scope of work carried out on the edifice, the University’s Director, Physical Facilities, Arc. (Mrs) Halima Auta explained that some non-functional equipment and furniture were installed while the building was rehabilitated in some dilapidated and flood prone areas to upgrade it in line with modern standards.

Arc. Auta disclosed that the Project was carried out through internally generated revenue with the Contractors executing the work according to the agreed specifications.

Representative of the Project Contractors, Messrs Debdans Multibiz Nigeria Limited, Timothy Tola, expressed gratitude to the University Authorities for awarding the contract to his firm and confirmed that the work had been carried out according to the requisite standard and quality.

Mr Tola, however, regretted that the Project could not be completed within the scheduled period due to some unforeseen circumstances but expressed confidence that the University can now utilize the facilities provided for a long time to come without any encumbrances.   

The University’s Abuja Liaison Officer, Mrs Shitna’an Hoomkwap who spoke on behalf of the end user Department, commended the University Management for the bold move to renovate the edifice towards upscaling the services provided to customers and other clients.

She assured that Staff of the Liaison Office will redouble their efforts towards justifying the University’s investment in the Project and announced that they are now fully open and ready for business.

According to her, the accommodation rates for the Guest House has been reviewed upwards as Guests will now pay the sum of 15,000 naira per night while University Staff will now pay 10,000 per night to enjoy their services.

The short but colorful ceremony featured a facility tour to inspect the upgraded amenities led by the University’s Chief Estate Officer, Mrs Rebecca Satong as well as the official handing over formalities conducted by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya.
