The Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI) has donated sports equipment to the Kano Juvenile Center, popularly known as the Remand Home, as part of efforts to promote social engagement and psychological well-being among children in the facility.
V-PeSDI Coordinator Hannatu Suleiman Abba said, The donation, which included footballs and skipping ropes, aims to encourage active participation in sports and address mental health challenges among the juveniles through a self-therapeutic approach.
“This initiative is designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of the children by encouraging sports activities that offer a natural outlet for stress and emotional release,” she said.
However, V-PeSDI partnered with the Arewa Art Foundation to introduce creative arts programs within the center.
The collaboration will focus on empowering children with artistic skills to boost their emotional resilience and economic potential.
The Chairperson of Arewa Art Foundation, Dr. Maryam Nasir Aliyu, emphasized the therapeutic value of art, stating, “Art helps unburden depression and significantly improves mental and emotional health.”
She added that the joint initiative with V-PeSDI is aimed at creating sustainable impact by fostering healing and development through both sports and creative engagement.
While Receiving the donation, the officer in charge of the Remand Home, Malam Musa, expressed profound gratitude and appealed for more collaborative efforts.
“This gesture means a lot to the children. We welcome more positive interventions that will help shape their future,” he said.
