VON Welcomes Loyal Listener from Côte d’Ivoire, Reinforces Commitment to African Audiences

On Monday, September 2nd, 2024, the Voice of Nigeria (VON) headquarters in Abuja played host to a special guest, Abdullahi Dikko, a devoted listener of VON’s Fulani service. Abdullahi, a passionate Fulani youth activist from Côte d’Ivoire, traveled to Nigeria to express his deep appreciation for the impact VON’s broadcasts have had on his community and to meet with the Director General of VON.

Abdullahi, who has been an avid follower of VON’s programs in French and Fulfulde, highlighted the significance of the service for Fulani communities in Côte d’Ivoire, particularly in rural areas. He commended VON for providing a platform that connects Ivorians and other residents of Côte d’Ivoire to the broader African narrative, emphasizing that VON’s content resonates deeply with listeners who rely on it for information, education, and cultural connection.

During the meeting, Abdullahi voiced a strong appeal for VON to enhance its outreach to rural audiences across Africa, who may not have access to digital platforms or smartphones. He stressed the importance of maintaining traditional broadcast methods to ensure that VON’s messages reach all corners of the continent.

In response, the Director General of VON reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to its mission of being the Voice of Africa. He assured Abdullahi that under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu GCFR and the Honorable Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris FNIPR, VON is determined to strengthen its role in uniting Africans through media. Efforts are underway to ensure that VON’s broadcasts continue to serve diverse audiences, including those in rural and underserved areas.

The meeting underscored VON’s pivotal role in fostering peace, unity, and progress across Africa. The Director General also extended his gratitude to the Director of Programme Languages, Hajiya Hauwa Ajeje, and the dedicated Fulani service team for their continued efforts in amplifying African voices.

As VON continues its mission, it remains committed to connecting with all listeners, ensuring that the voice of Africa reaches every part of the continent.
