By Abdullahi Yusuf

Kano State Government will clamp down on dealers of illicit drugs,as part of it’s efforts to check drug abuse, especially among youths in the state.

Governor Abba Yusuf announced this during a consultative meeting with the state Council of Imams of Friday Mosques from across the 44 local government areas in the state, held at the Government House,Kano,on Thursday.

“We will go after all dealers of illicit drugs wherever they are in this state,so as to stop them from selling harmful drugs to our people.

“I will personally lead the operation,if need be, to ensure that we check the activities of these illicit drug dealers. We cannot allow them to continue to destroy our youths,”Yusuf warned.

The Governor then decried the prevailing moral decadence among youths in the state, describing the situation as unacceptable.

He blamed the trend largely on drug abuse which he said must be reversed by the government in partnership with other stakeholders.

He also lamented the spate of criminal activities in the state, especially armed robbery and kidnapping, which he also said must be tackled.

The Governor urged the Imams to partner with his administration to tackle the aforementioned menaces “to ensure peace, progress and development of the state.”

He said they could do this by preaching and enlightening their students and followers on the dangers of drug abuse and other vices in the society.

He thanked the clerics for their continued prayers and kind wishes and implored them to always advise and guide his administration on ways to move the state forward.

Responding, the Chairman of the Council, Sheikh Nasir Adam, said the clerics were always available to offer advice and guidance to the State Government for the peace, progress and development of the state.
