Woman Arrested in Delta for Selling Two-Month-Old Baby for N1.5 Million

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman, Rita Ughale, from Kokori community in Ethiope East Local Government Area, for allegedly selling her two-month-old baby for N1.5 million.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri on Friday.
According to the police spokesperson, on December 15, 2025, at about 1840hrs, one Rita Ughale of Kokori, Ethiope East LGA, reported at the Ekpan Police Division that her two-month-old baby had been snatched during a robbery incident while she was travelling in a tricycle.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, immediately launched a search and rescue operation with police operatives.
“During the course of the investigation, inconsistencies and suspicious conduct observed in the complainant’s narrative prompted further interrogation,” Edafe stated.
He added that after a thorough investigation, the complainant confessed to having sold her two-month-old child to a couple, Osas Omijie (39) and his wife Judith Omijie (30), for the sum of N1.5 million.
Both the seller and the buyers are currently in police custody, while the infant has been successfully rescued and is safe.
