Women Empowerment:Gov Yusuf Cautions Beneficiaries Against Fraudsters
By Abdullahi Yusuf
Kano State Government has warned that it will decisively deal with any person found defrauding the beneficiaries of its N50,000 monthly support for women in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf sounded the warning while disbursing the sum of N50,000 each as monthly support to 6,680 women at the Government House,Kano,on Saturday.
“This sum of N50,000 is the amount government is giving to each of you to support any small business you want to venture into,to enable you to become self reliant.Do not give anybody part of the amount for any reason.
“Report to the appropriate authorities any person who attempts to defraud you of the money and we will ensure that the suspect is promptly arrested and prosecuted,” Yusuf said.
According to him, appropriate measures had been taken to ensure that each beneficiary gets their N50,000 intact, advising them to invest the money wisely.
He disclosed that the number of the beneficiaries had been increased from 52,000 to 6,680 “to accommodate our members, our sisters, those that came from the All Progressives Congress(APC).”
This, the Governor explained, followed his recent defection from the NNPP to the APC, alongside his supporters.
“By empowering women, we are empowering the entire communities that cut across the 44 local government areas of the state.
“I urge you to utilise the money responsibly, invest in small businesses, support your families, and contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of our State. Let this opportunity be a stepping stone towards financial independence and long-term prosperity.
“We have also undertaken mass wedding programme for widows, spinsters, and other poor people of the state, especially the economically challenged ones, where government fully sponsors all marital expenses and provides start-up capital to the beneficiaries.
“This initiative is not only an extraordinary beginning but also promoting social stability and economic self-realisation. Furthermore, we have now completed all necessary arrangements to empower many youths through the prohibition of tricycles, popularly known as A Daidaita Sahu, to enable them to engage in gainful commercial activities and earn a living with dignity.
“Let me say that this programme is not just a financial intervention, it is a strategic investment. This initiative is firmly aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which is designed to bring about real and lasting transformation in the lives of our people by focusing on what truly matters, that is, families, dignity, and opportunity,” Yusuf added.
