The Young Female Professionals in Media (YFPM) is deeply saddened and disturbed by the brutal and inhumane attack carried out on the household of Haruna Bashir at Dorayi Charanchi Quarters, Kano State.
This heart-wrenching incident involved the violent invasion of the family’s residence by unknown hoodlums, leaving Fatima Abubakar and her six innocent children traumatized and emotionally shattered. The attack on a mother and her children within the supposed safety of their home is not only a criminal act but a direct assault on humanity, personal dignity, and the conscience of our society.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed and issued to newsmen by Chairperson of the Forum, Maryam Usman Nagado and Secretary Khadija Shehu Abdulkarim.
According to the statement, as young women working in the media space, we are particularly pained by this incident. A home is meant to be a place of protection, not fear. No mother should be subjected to watch her children face terror of this nature. No child should be allow to go through this kind of psychological trauma and physical violence while the society watches
This incident raises serious concerns about the safety of families, women, and children within our communities. The increasing daring culture of criminal elements, especially through attacks on defenseless households, demands urgent attention from security agencies and relevant authorities.
We strongly call on the Kano State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, and all relevant security institutions to immediately launch a thorough and transparent investigation into this attack. The perpetrators must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with our extant law. Justice must not only be done — it must be seen to be done.
Silence in moments like this only empowers violence. Let accountability restore our hope
The Young Female Professionals in Media stand in solidarity with Fatima Abubakar and her children, and we urge the government, civil society organizations, community leaders, and the general public to join hands in demanding justice, protection, and stronger security measures to prevent a recurrence of such tragic events.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims as they begin the painful process of healing. We reaffirm our commitment to using our voices, platforms, and professional responsibility to speak for the vulnerable to ensure promotion of a safer society for all.
An attack on one family is an attack on us all.
