Yobe Governor Commissions Projects in Borno, Zulum Names Estate After Buni

From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has commissioned housing and road projects in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

In a statement signed by Mamman Mohammad, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Buni, the governor attended the event as a special guest of honor and commended his Borno State counterpart, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for prioritizing people-oriented projects.

Governor Buni emphasized the historical and cultural ties between the two states, stating:
“Borno and Yobe States have always been one. We are a people bound by the same culture and tradition but separated only for administrative convenience. We have always stood together, sharing both joyful and challenging moments, including the unfortunate insurgency that claimed many lives, displaced millions, and destroyed critical infrastructure, setting us back significantly.”

He noted the efforts of both states to rebuild and recover from the insurgency through the Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Recovery program.

“In Yobe, we have invested heavily in education, healthcare, agriculture, and empowerment initiatives to ensure a sustainable future for our people. This year, we launched a multi-billion Naira agricultural empowerment program that transformed agricultural production during the harvest season. We also provided N2.93 billion in support to flood victims, vulnerable persons, and small and medium-scale entrepreneurs to stimulate economic growth,” Governor Buni said.

He congratulated the beneficiaries of the projects and urged them to take ownership of the infrastructure provided.

“These projects are your property, meant to serve you effectively and efficiently. You must guard them jealously,” he added.

Governor Buni also called on the people of Borno State to continue supporting their government’s initiatives.

“Your support for government policies and programs will create a conducive atmosphere for more positive projects and initiatives. Better opportunities lie ahead for our people to live dignified lives,” he assured.

Buni expressed gratitude to the federal government, security forces, paramilitary agencies, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and vigilantes for their support in securing both states.

Earlier in his remarks, Governor Zulum explained that the commissioned projects were designed to improve the lives of the people. He further announced that the 500-unit Njimtilo Housing Estate in Maiduguri has been named after Governor Buni.

“The 500-unit Njimtilo Housing Estate is hereby named and should be addressed as the Mai Mala Housing Estate,” Zulum declared.

This symbolic gesture underscores the close collaboration and shared vision of the two governors in advancing development in their respective states.
