Yobe Gov’t Provides N179.8m Subsidy Support to Pilgrims

From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

The Yobe State Pilgrims Commission has announced that it has disbursed a total of N179.8 million in subsidy funds approved by Governor Mai Mala Buni to 1,332 pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

This gesture is aimed at supporting the pilgrims in their spiritual journey and alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with the pilgrimage.

According to the Commission’s Chairman, Alh. Mai Aliyu, each pilgrim received a Basic Travelling Allowance subsidy of N135,000 as approved by the governor.

“This amount is intended to cover some of the expenses incurred by the pilgrims during their trip, including transportation, accommodation, and food” he said.

The Chairman also confirmed that all 1,332 pilgrims and officials have been successfully airlifted to Saudi Arabia, with most already in Makkah, while a few remain in Medina.

He noted that the commission worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth and hitch-free airlift, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chairman highlighted the commission’s efforts to secure hotel accommodations within walking distance to the holy mosques in Medina and Makkah, to enable pilgrims to focus on their religious obligations without unnecessary distractions.

He reported that all pilgrims are in good condition and are praying for the governor, the government of Yobe State, and the peace and prosperity of Nigeria.

Governor Buni commended the commission and airliners for their efficient airlifting of the pilgrims, ensuring their safe and timely arrival in Saudi Arabia.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the pilgrims, urging the commission to continue serving them diligently and ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout the pilgrimage.

The governor also admonished the pilgrims to conduct themselves peacefully and perform the Hajj in accordance with the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

He prayed for Allah’s acceptance of their religious obligations, individual and collective prayers, and their safe return home.
