From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

The Head of Service of Yobe State has commended Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, for his commitment to human capital development and public service transformation.

In a press statement signed by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, Information Officer to the Yobe Head of Service, it was disclosed that the Head of Service, while representing Governor Buni at an event organized by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON)—where the Governor was honoured with an Award of Excellence—described the recognition as a well-deserved tribute to a people-oriented leader.

He highlighted Governor Buni’s continuous support for civil servants, citing prompt salary payments, provision of affordable housing, payment of furniture allowances, and distribution of welfare materials as key initiatives.

The Head of Service further noted the Governor’s recent settlement of all outstanding gratuity liabilities to retired civil servants, describing it as a mark of compassion and dedication to workers’ welfare.

He added that the administration has strengthened the state’s civil service through massive recruitment and training programmes, both within and outside Nigeria.

The Yobe State Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning, Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, disclosed that Governor Buni has directed the establishment of a succession plan and training guide document, as well as the appointment of a Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning—measures that have boosted morale among the workforce.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to capacity building, noting the training of 34 Permanent Secretaries at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) and 149 civil servants at ASCON.

In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Funke Femi Adepoju, Director General of ASCON, appreciated Governor Buni’s visionary leadership and partnership with the College.

She noted that Yobe State recorded the largest number of participants in ASCON’s training history, underscoring the administration’s strong investment in workforce development. ASCON reaffirmed its role as a National Reform Accelerator, focused on experiential and results-oriented learning for effective governance.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Alhaji Abas Isa Bizi, Permanent Secretary, Manpower Development, described the award as a celebration of Yobe State’s commitment to excellence in human capital development.

He expressed gratitude to ASCON for recognizing Governor Buni’s efforts, describing the honour as a testament to the power of visionary leadership and investment in people.
