The Yobe State Police Command has expressed sympathy to the government and people of Maiduguri, Borno State, following bomb explosions that occurred on March 16, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m. at different locations within the city.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, urged residents of Yobe State to remain calm, vigilant and security-conscious, especially in their communities, public places and other crowded environments.
The Command noted that the call followed a State Security Council meeting held at the Yobe State Government House on the same day, involving all security agencies, where comprehensive security measures were put in place ahead of the forthcoming Sallah celebrations.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Units and Intelligence Departments to ensure robust security coverage at worship centres, recreational facilities, public parks and other strategic locations before, during and after the festivities.
Residents were also encouraged to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information on suspicious persons, objects, vehicles or motorcycles to the nearest police station.
The Command further cautioned motorists and other road users against reckless driving during the festive period to ensure public safety.
It also warned against the recurring trend during celebrations where some youths carry dangerous objects, stressing that such acts will not be tolerated. Offenders, it said, would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The police advised communities to strengthen neighbourhood watch and adopt community-based vigilance as part of proactive security measures.
