Yobe Supports National Qur’anic Recitation Competition with N20m Donation

The Yobe State Government has donated Twenty Million Naira (N20 million) in support of participants at the 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, reaffirming its commitment to the promotion of Islamic education, moral values, and national unity.

In a press statement by Yusuf Ali Focal person digital and strategic communication said, The donation was announced at the closing ceremony of the competition held at the Convocation Square, University of Maiduguri, Borno State. Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, was duly represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, mni.

Governor Buni commended the Borno State Government, under the leadership of Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for successfully hosting the prestigious national event. He also praised the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, for its effective organization of the 40th edition of the competition.

The Governor congratulated all the participants and winners, describing the competition as a vital platform for nurturing discipline, unity, and spiritual growth among Nigerian youths, while strengthening peaceful coexistence across the country.

At the end of the competition, Borno State emerged overall winner in the male category, with Musa Ahmed Musa clinching the top prize. In the female category, Hafsat Muhammad Sada of Kano State emerged overall winner.

The week-long event featured 296 contestants from 30 states, competing across six categories.

In his remarks, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum said the successful hosting of the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition signified the return of peace, stability, and normalcy to Borno State and the wider North-East region. He noted that the event symbolized the people’s collective commitment to peace, education, and the pursuit of knowledge.

The event attracted high-profile dignitaries, including the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima; the Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Dikko Umaru Radda; the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State; the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; members of the National and State Assemblies; traditional rulers; Islamic scholars; and other distinguished guests.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of gifts to the winners by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima.
