A Yobe State teacher, Gambo Lawan, has brought pride to the state after emerging as the Best Teacher in the North-East during the 2026 Federal Ministry of Education National Teachers Award Ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The prestigious event recognized exceptional teachers across the country for their excellence, dedication, and innovation in the education sector. Lawan’s outstanding performance earned her the top regional honour and a cash prize of ₦25 million, making her one of the biggest winners of the night.
The Yobe State government has continued to celebrate the milestone, describing it as proof of the state’s growing investment in education and human capital development.
According to officials of the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the selection process was rigorous, transparent, and strictly merit-based, reflecting professionalism and measurable classroom impact.
The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Umaru Hassan-Babayo, commended Lawan for projecting Yobe State positively on the national stage, adding that her success reinforces the state’s growing reputation as a strong advocate of quality education.
In addition to the cash award, Lawan also received a tertiary education scholarship in recognition of her remarkable performance.
Expressing her joy, Lawan pledged to redouble her efforts, vowing to continue impacting her students with greater dedication and passion.
This recognition follows a series of recent academic successes for Yobe State, including the victory of three students — Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukayya Muhammad-Fema, and Hadiza Kashim-Kalli — at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, where they excelled in spelling, writing, and knowledge competitions.
