By Hannatu Sulaiman Abba

In line with the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Youth Society For the Prevention of Infectious Disease (YOSPIS) recently conducted a capacity-building training for its members.

The training, facilitated by Director of Sufi Innovation and Development Solutions (SIDES) / Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation, aimed to equip YOSPIS members with essential leadership and communication skills.

Commencing its development activities in Kano State in 1997, YOSPIS has been dedicated to empowering youth.

Dr. Sufi emphasized that effective leadership among youth is crucial in creating an enabling environment, and youth should champion SDGs as they form the backbone of society.

Leadership skills, including effective communication, self-branding, critical thinking, and innovative ideas, were highlighted as key elements to foster sustainable atmospheres for all.

Dr. Sufi stressed that YOSPIS, as a youth-led organization, should prioritize SDGs in the state before 2030.

YOSPIS, known for its zealous, selfless, and dedicated youth members, has successfully altered negative narratives to positive ones, contributing to the betterment of youth in Kano through various programs.

During the training, Zainab Nasir, YOSPIS Executive Director, expressed that the initiative aligns with the 2024 agenda, boosting the morale of YOSPIS members in conducting activities in Kano.

Furthermore, YOSPIS pledged to continue uplifting its members through capacity-building training and other developmental activities for youth in the state.

The YOSPIS capacity-building training received support from the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation.
