Zamfara: Collaboration of NGO’s launches 50,000 tree planting, Community awareness

A Nongovernmental organization, ACReSAL in collaboration with Health Standard Concern Organization (HESCO) a focal NGO of Zamfara State, has on Monday launched a 50,000 tree planting campaign with a view to secure greener future for Zamfara State.

Speaking during flagging off ceremony of the tree planting campaign started by 5,000 assorted trees with 3,000 at Commissioner’s quarters and 2,000 trees at JB Secretariat all in Gusau Zamfara State capital were planted, the Ag. Coordinator of the ACReSAL, Malam Nasiruddeen Bello, said the aim was to build a Food-Producing environment.

Malam Bello further opined that, the organization has initiated the tree planting campaign under multi-purpose project by assisting to avoid desertification, and at the same time to provide foods for the teeming populace across the 14 local government areas of the state.

The results of the project as according to the Ag. Coordinator, “Health and Wealth would be improved, utility of trees with respect to their importance in restoring, reclaiming and rejuvenating denuded and disturbed soils, their ecological, ecodevelopmental and environmental use.

“In addition, the importance of this tree planting depends on their value as a source of sustenance, food, sugars, starches, spices and condiments, beverages, fumitories, masticatories and narcotics, medicines, essential oils, fatty oils and vegetables could all be harvested.

Earlier, the Executive Director of the HESCO as focal NGO in the state, Abdullahi Lawali, said his organization being part of the ACReSAL project, is dedicated to building agro-climatic resilience in semi-arid landscapes.

“We are grateful for the trust placed in our organization to serve as the focal NGO for Zamfara State, leading community sensitization, social mobilization, group formation, and impact evaluation efforts.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards achieving our goals. We launch the Community Awareness and Tree Planting initiative, demonstrating our collective commitment to environmental protection and a sustainable future.Trees are vital to our planet, providing oxygen, shelter, food, and supporting biodiversity while mitigating climate change effects.

“Through this initiative, we aim to plant 50,000 assorted trees in Zamfara to combat desertification and enhancing environmental conservation. This marks the beginning of our planned activities in focal project communities.

“HESCO is committed to collaborating closely with SPMU to ensure smooth project implementation and achievement of ACReSAL goals through community mobilization and impact evaluation. May our partnership inspire positive change and improve the lives of our people”, Abdullahi Lawali has stressed.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Zamfara State Ministry of Environment, Garba Altine Dauran, positioned that, the State Government under the leadership of Dauda Lawal, has initiated an economically lucrative policies with a view to safeguard and promote economic resources in the state.

The State Government has welcomed the project embarked upon by the ACReSAL as it would serve as compliment to the second major objectives of the present Dauda Lawal led-administration after security matters.
