ZAWFAG trains 370 youths on self reliance in Gombe

In an effort aimed at encouraging self reliance by Youths, the Zakah & waqf Foundation in Gombe state (ZAWFAG) has trained about 370 youths in the last four years.
So far, the Foundation said it trained 80 youths for each of the 2020, 2021 and 2022 sets while 120 youths were trained for the 2023 set totaling 360 Waqf Ambassadors.
In an interview with the Chairman of the Foundation, Amir Dr Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido, said the essences of training the youth was to raie the consciousness of unlocking the potentials in themselves and develop the society.
According to him, apart from knowing their potentials, it will also enable them to evaluate themselves for any task in the the future.
He also said the training will help them to move away from poverty to prosperity by being job creators rather than job seekers, employers and not employees.
“Statistic shows that the population of Gombe state is 3.5 million and those working under Government are only 1.4 per cent of the total population. So with this kind of training, youths will start depending on themselves,” he said.
He explained that if somebody establishes his Business, he may employ more people and thus become employers not employees.
The young participants drawn are undergraduate students of higher institutions who were given knowledge and skills on how to be self-reliant even after they graduate from their respective institution.
Dr Lamido said the two-day training was conducted annually and that after the intensive two days training, it is followed by another monthly training to equip them with a full package on how to change their lives from dependent to independent.
He called on participants to fully participate in the training, pay attention and contribute toward the success of their training for them to become good waqf Ambassadors.
Some of the participants interviewed expressed their happiness and thanked the Foundation for the training. They said the training will assist them in life because they acquired more knowledge.
