The Zamfara State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has retrained its staff members in a one-week retreat organized to widden their scope on the establishment of the Water Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH department, as approved by the administration of His Excellency Dr. Dauda Lawal and promoted by LGSC.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Commission, Barr. Shafi’u Bukhari which was made available to Journalists in Gusau the state capital.
According to the statement the retreat was held at at the House Quarter Hotel, Unguwar Musulimi, Malali G R A Kaduna State. The Secretary described the process as a significant milestone in improving the establishment of the WASH department, as approved by Governor Dauda Lawal.
Barr. Shafi’u Bukhari further said that to ensure the delivery of appropriate interventions by both direct provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion in liaison with the local and international partners.
The Secretary of commission also said that all rural water, sanitation, and hygiene projects are domiciled in the department. The department is to locate, document, monitor and
Supervise all 14 Local Government Areas’ WASH assets in the respective LGAs.
He stated that the retreat key areas included; establishment of the WASH department, as approved by Governor Dauda Lawal, promotion of LGSC staff to higher positions, development of the annual training calendar for 2026 as well as review of key performance indicators.
Bukhari further said that the retreat aimed to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Zamfara State Local Government Service Commission.
Participants at the retreat include; senior officials of the Commission, comprising Permanent Commissioners, Secretary/Legal Advisers, Directors, Chief Registry Officer, and Schedule Officer of the Finance Department.
