Farmers across Yobe State have received a major boost following the decision of Governor Mai Mala Buni, to reduce the cost of hiring tractors from N100,000 to N50,000.
The Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Mohammed Goje, disclosed the development, describing it as part of the administration’s commitment to easing the burden on farmers and promoting increased agricultural production.
He said the 50 per cent reduction in tractor hiring fees would enable more farmers to access mechanised farming services, cultivate larger expanses of land and improve productivity during the current farming season.
According to him, the intervention is expected to lower the cost of cultivation, enhance food production and contribute significantly to food security in the state.
He noted that Governor Buni’s administration has consistently prioritized agriculture through investments in farm machinery, improved seeds, fertilizers and other agricultural support programmes aimed at empowering farmers and strengthening rural economies.
The Acting SSG explained that making tractor services more affordable would encourage greater participation in farming activities and help farmers maximize their yields.
He reaffirmed the administration’s determination to sustain policies and programmes that support agricultural growth, create employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of the people.
