The AA Envoys, a youth- and women-led political advocacy group, has highlighted former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, as a presidential contender whose economic proposals merit national attention ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a press statement issued as part of its 100-day countdown to the presidential election, the group’s National Coordinator, Engr. Sirajo Abdullahi, said the organisation would continue to draw public attention to Atiku Abubakar’s policy proposals, particularly those addressing the cost of living, domestic production, employment and economic opportunity.
According to the group, one of the proposals is a targeted production subsidy for petroleum products refined in Nigeria, rather than a return to an open-ended subsidy on imported fuel.
Atiku has said that, if elected, his administration would introduce a transparent production subsidy for petroleum products refined domestically and sold to Nigerians. The proposed programme would be limited by a fixed spending ceiling, subject to National Assembly approval and independent audits.
Atiku has described the policy as part of a broader commitment to reducing the cost of living and ensuring that government economic interventions produce measurable benefits for ordinary Nigerians.
He has also emphasised the need to expand opportunities for young Nigerians through education, skills development, employment and productive economic activity.
The AA Envoys said its 100-day countdown programme would focus on examining the policy proposals being presented by political actors ahead of the 2027 election, including proposals relating to affordability, domestic production, employment and purchasing power.
The group further stated that it intends to publish a detailed document examining 100 policy reasons it believes Atiku Abubakar’s programme should receive public consideration, while encouraging Nigerians to assess all candidates and their respective programmes before making their choices.
As the 2027 election approaches, the AA Envoys said it would continue its public engagement on economic policy and governance issues, with particular attention to measures that could affect the welfare and economic opportunities of Nigerian families.
