176 Graduate with First Class as BUK Holds 39th Convocation Ceremony

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) is set to hold its 39th Convocation Ceremony in a grand, staggered format from Wednesday, February 12, to Saturday, February 15, 2025.

The four-day event will celebrate thousands of graduates, feature the conferment of honorary degrees, and include a convocation lecture on a national development theme.

Addressing the press on Monday, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, disclosed that 4,404 graduands would receive their Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates during the opening ceremony.

On Thursday, February 13, another 4,367 graduates from seven faculties will be conferred with their degrees. These include 176 First Class graduates, 275 PhDs, 2,590 Master’s degrees, and 535 Postgraduate Diplomas.

“This convocation marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of our students. It is a moment to celebrate their achievements and the positive impact they will have on society,” Prof. Abbas said.

A key feature of the ceremony will be the Convocation Lecture, scheduled for Friday, February 14. Themed “Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Pathway to National Development,” the lecture will be delivered by Khalil Sulaiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI. The Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Jeoffrey Nnaji, will serve as Chairman.

The grand finale on Saturday, February 15, will see the university confer Honorary Doctorate Degrees on Colonel Sani Bello (Rtd.) and Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano for their exemplary contributions to society.

Additionally, three retired scholars—Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, Professor Julius Afolabi Falola, and Professor Musa Mohammed Borodo—will receive the prestigious Emeritus Professor titles in recognition of their outstanding academic legacies.
