From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna

In celebration of the 2024 International Peace Day, the Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ) commended the Kaduna State Peace Commission (KSPC) for successfully organizing a multi-stakeholder peace symposium.

The event, held in collaboration with 37 partner organizations, brought together key players in peacebuilding to discuss strategies for fostering unity and harmony in Kaduna and beyond.

The symposium, held at the 1,000-capacity hall at Kaduna State University, saw participation from traditional and religious leaders, community peace observers, and advocates of Christian-Muslim relations.

Themed “Cultivating a Culture of Peace and Unity,” the gathering highlighted the importance of dialogue and collaboration in promoting peaceful coexistence.

Ibrahim Yakubu, NPJ’s team leader, lauded the efforts of the Kaduna State Government, KSPC, and civil society organizations for their dedication to peacebuilding.

He also extended his gratitude to organizations such as the Interfaith Mediation Center (IMC), Search for Common Ground, Mercy Corps, and the Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action (JISRA) for their role in training journalists in conflict-sensitive reporting.

Yakubu further urged all Nigerians to embrace patriotism and called on the government to address the insecurity threatening the nation’s peace and stability.
