From Umar Dankano, Yola
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and presidential candidate of the Alliance People’s Movement (APM) has challenged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to release its petroleum pricing templates to enable Nigerians to scrutinise the pricing mechanism.
Makinde made the call on Saturday in Yola during the APM North-East town hall meeting, where party stakeholders and candidates strategised ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He criticised the Tinubu administration for failing to deliver on its promises, alleging that its policies and initiatives had not significantly addressed Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
The governor cited initiatives involving Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), electric vehicles, the naira-for-crude policy, insecurity and poverty reduction, arguing that Nigerians had yet to see the expected results.
“Give us your pricing templates so that we can make our inputs as Nigerians because government is for everyone, not only those in the corridors of power,” Makinde said.
He urged Nigerians to hold Tinubu accountable for his campaign promises and determine the country’s political future through their votes in the 2027 elections.
Makinde also recalled Tinubu’s reported promise to address Nigeria’s electricity challenges within four years, urging voters to assess the administration’s performance against that commitment.
He said Nigerians should use their votes to pursue a better future, particularly for younger generations, if the electricity challenge remained unresolved.
The APM presidential candidate pledged to establish a government that would listen to citizens and involve them in finding solutions to the country’s challenges if elected president.
He further promised to run a transitional government of national unity that would bring Nigerians from the country’s six geopolitical zones into the governance process.
“Our government, if given the mandate by Nigerian voters in 2027, will not allow one section of the country to dominate the system. Rather, it will be a transitional government of national unity,” Makinde said.
In his remarks, the national leader of the APM and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, commended party members and stakeholders in the North-East for their support and cooperation in welcoming Makinde to the region.
Mohammed described the APM as a credible political platform for addressing Nigeria’s challenges and called on Nigerians to support the party and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
He said the party was committed to resetting the country through policies and programmes designed to improve governance, address citizens’ needs and fulfil its campaign promises.
Speaking on behalf of the party’s governorship candidates in the North-East, the APM governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Abdulrahaman Bashir Haske, said the candidates were working towards securing victory for the party in the 2027 elections.
Haske urged party leaders, members and stakeholders to intensify grassroots campaigns across their respective states, local government areas, wards and polling units to challenge the ruling party.
