2027:APC Adopts Baba Mallam Wali As Consensus Candidate For Yobe Governorship
By Abdullahi Yusuf
In a major development for Yobe State’s 2027 election cycle, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali,a veteran administrator and the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, has been adopted as the All Progressives Congress’ consensus candidate for the state governorship election.
The decision, reached at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, signals the party leadership’s preference for continuity and administrative experience following the resolution adopted by stakeholders consultative meeting held in Damaturu on Thursday 23rd April 2026.
The meeting was chaired by Senator (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs and a former governor of Yobe, whose involvement lends significant political weight and elder-statesman credibility to the endorsement.
Also present were State Party Chairman Alhaji Mohammad Gadaka and key legislative figures, including Hon. Lawan Shettima and Hon.
Tijjani Zanna Zakariya, indicating broad backing from both party structures and legislative ranks.
By choosing a consensus route, APC stakeholders aim to present a united front and avoid the internal friction that can arise from open primaries.
This official endorsement positions Baba Mallam Wali as the clear frontrunner for the governorship with the backing of the state government and party hierarchy.
The move is especially consequential in Yobe, where the APC has long been dominant.
A consensus candidate endorsed by the incumbent administration could streamline the party’s path to the general election.
