From Umar Dankano, Yola

The Adamawa State police command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Sadiq Idrissu of Boga village in the Gombi local government area for the murder of his mother over an allegation of witchcraft.

Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje disclosed the development to the media in Yola on Monday explaining that the suspect murdered his biological mother over an allegation of witchcraft.

SP Nguroje said that the suspect was apprehended following a tip-off by the police operatives adding  that, the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, has directed the matter be transferred to CID for discreet investigation for prosecution

While being interrogated, Idrissu confessed to the crime stressing that he shot and killed his mother intentionally due to alleged witchcraft

He was established to have shot her dead on the 5th of December, 2023, leaving her lifeless in the village.

Admitting further, Idrissu that, he does not regret killing her; instead, he sympathised with his father for marrying and staying with her for all this while despite her alleged atrocities against humanity through witchcraft.

“I killed my mother because she appeared to me as a witch. People have been accusing her of witchcraft for about 2 years ago. It is true because something kept frightening me more, especially in the night”, he stated.

The suspect, who drinks intoxicants or chemicals known as “suck and die” said that his mother had been appearing to him in a dream as a witch and kept sending terrible fears which according to him have been causing him sleepless nights.

He stated that on that fateful day, he returned home at the wee hours of the night with the intention of confronting the deceased over the alleged witchcraft but couldn’t find her in the bedroom, only meeting his sister who was sleeping.

As suspicious as he was, he moved immediately to his father’s abode where she wasn’t there too then his instinct told him that, his mother had gone out to perpetrate witchcraft.

While going out to search for her, he sighted her and shot her 2 times at close range which confirmed to him that she was a witch.
