The Centre for Gender Studies and Girl-Child Education (CGSGCE), College of Education and Legal Studies, Nguru, has trained 320 girls on informed career decision-making to empower them with the knowledge and skills needed to make sound career choices.
The one-day workshop brought together female students from tertiary institutions as well as junior and senior secondary schools.
Speaking at the event, the Provost of the College, Prof. Ali Manzo, said the training was part of the Centre’s commitment to promoting girl-child empowerment through education and life skills development.
He noted that the Centre is dedicated to creating better opportunities for girls by equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to succeed academically and professionally.
Delivering the keynote address, the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Nguru, Prof. Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, encouraged the participants to pursue their ambitions with confidence, stressing that a girl’s place of birth should never limit her aspirations.
“As someone who has dedicated her career to medicine, teaching, mentorship and leadership, I have learned that where a girl is born should never determine how far she can go,” she said.
Prof. Usman added that the career decisions girls make today would shape their future success, noting that Nguru Local Government, Yobe State and Nigeria need educated women in every profession.
Also speaking, the Education Secretary of the Nguru Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Mallam Hamisu Ado, urged the participants to remain committed to their education.
He commended the Yobe State Government for providing equal educational opportunities for girls and encouraged them to make the most of them.
