…CP Orders Thorough Investigation

The Yobe State Police Command has recorded another operational breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected armed robber linked to the theft of a commercial tricycle after allegedly intoxicating its rider.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkareem, the incident occurred on July 23, 2026.
He said the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report at about 10:50 p.m. that an unidentified man, who posed as a passenger, allegedly administered a suspected intoxicating substance to a 25-year-old commercial tricycle rider while being conveyed to Dubai, Garin Dala, behind G.G.S.S.T.C., Potiskum.
The statement said the rider lost consciousness after consuming the suspected substance, enabling the suspect to flee with the tricycle, bearing registration number 7878, to an unknown destination.
The victim was immediately evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, where he was admitted for treatment and is responding positively.
The police said swift dissemination of intelligence and effective collaboration with security agencies in neighbouring states led to the interception of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen tricycle at a security checkpoint in Gaya, Kano State.
The statement added that the suspect is currently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing and will be followed by prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, commended officers and security personnel for their prompt response and effective collaboration, which led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the stolen tricycle.
He directed that the case be thoroughly investigated to identify and apprehend other suspects or accomplices connected with the crime.
The Commissioner also advised commercial tricycle operators, taxi drivers and other transport service providers to remain vigilant while conveying passengers.
He urged operators not to be enticed by unusually high transport fares offered by suspicious passengers and warned them against accepting drinks, food, medication or any other consumables from strangers while on duty.
He further encouraged transport operators and members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Yobe State and called on residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance public safety.
