3,000 Persons To Benefit From Kano Government-Sponsored Mass Wedding Programme

No fewer than 3,000 people are to benefit from a mass wedding programme sponsored by the Kano State Government,The Commander-General of the State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa,has disclosed.
Sheikh Daurawa made the disclosure while briefing journalists on preparations for the programme on Monday.
He also revealed that the sum of N1.5 billion has been earmarked for the programme.
“The Kano State Government is to spend N1.5 billion on the entire programme which will soon be conducted in the state,” he said.
The Commander-General explained that part of the money would be spent on the purchase of furniture, foodstuff, dowry, clothing materials for the couples, and that the sum of N200,000 will be given to each of the brides (N100,000 as dowry) and (N100,000 capital for the wedding activities).
According to him, the board in collaboration with the state Ministry of Health had already begun medical screening for the prospective couples with a view to ascertaining their health status.
“The mandatory medical screening is for hepatitis, pregnancy, HIV, Genotype as well as other sexually transmitted diseases,” he said.
Daurawa noted that no fewer than 5,000 people applied for the programme out of which 3,000 would be selected after the medical screening exercise.
While appreciating Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for reintroducing the programmre, Daurawa said the Governor is expected to fix the date for the event.
Recall that the medical screening commenced on Monday, 8th May 2026, with prospective couples drawn from 24 of the 44 local government areas of the state.
