A 75-year-old man, Daniel Jaja, of Mukuvinyi village in Hong local government area of Adamawa State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to rape a 25-year-old woman.
The spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Sulaiman Njuroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday. He said the suspect was alleged to have invited his victim to his house and suddenly advanced forcefully towards her, attempting to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her. The victim, however, resisted.
Njuroje said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim used a sharp razor blade to inflict serious injuries on the suspect’s erect penis while trying to defend herself. The suspect is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital.
The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, has directed the officer in charge of the Family Support Unit of the command to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.
The statement added: “Adamawa State Police Command on 30/10/2023 apprehended a 75-year-old man for attempting to rape a 25-year-old woman who visited him in Mukuvinyi Village, Hong Local Government Area.
“The suspect, one Daniel Jaja, 75 years old, on 18/10/2023 in Mukuvinyi village, Hong Local Government Area, was said to have invited his victim to his house and suddenly advanced forcefully to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her until she resisted.
“Investigation so far reveals that the victim, while trying to prevent the act, used a razor blade and cut the erect penis from penetrating her, leaving him with a serious injury. He is now on admission in the hospital receiving treatment.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, who frowns at the ugly incident, has directed the officer in charge of the Family Support Unit of the command to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.
“The Police Boss equally calls on members of the public, particularly those in villages, to give timely information to the police, especially against criminally minded elements who are in the habit of committing crimes against genders.”
