Adamawa APC Condemns Assault on Zonal National Vice Chairman Mustapha

From Umar Dankano, Yola

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has condemned the physical assault on the National Vice Chairman for North-East, Comrade Salihu Mustapha, during a zonal consultative forum in Gombe State.

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the meeting venue in Gombe, some individuals believed to be supporters of Vice President Kashim Shettima accused Comrade Salihu Mustapha of betrayal for not mentioning the Vice President’s name as a running mate while endorsing President Bola Tinubu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The incident led to a chaotic scene, during which both APC National Chairman, former Governor Umaru Abdullahi Ganduje, and Comrade Salihu Mustapha were verbally abused before security agents intervened to restore order.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Yola, party chairman Barrister Shuaibu Idris condemned the attack and emphasized that violence must not be tolerated in politics.

Barrister Idris noted that neither Comrade Mustapha nor the party is responsible for choosing a running mate for any presidential or governorship candidate, as that is a constitutional right of the candidate. He described the incident as an act of thuggery that all party members must discourage.

He assured that the incident was unrelated to the consultative meeting and urged party members and Nigerians to disregard the disruption, reaffirming that the party supports President Bola Tinubu as its candidate for the 2027 elections.

“The APC Adamawa State Chapter condemns the assault on our son, the National Vice Chairman North-East, Comrade Salihu Mustapha Ph.D (Sa’in Adamawa), carried out by individuals who infiltrated the APC North-East consultative forum on June 15, 2025,” Idris said.

“We adopt the communique read by the National Vice Chairman as the true position of the APC Governors Forum, National Assembly members, National Working Committee, and the APC Adamawa State Chapter endorsing Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our sole candidate for the 2027 nomination,” the chairman added.

He concluded that the disruption at the meeting was unrelated to the forum itself and urged all party members and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard it.
