Adamawa: Army’s Redeployment of Commander, Governor Radda’s Heroic Rescue Earn Praises from IHRC

The Nigerian Chapter of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has praised the Nigerian Army for its swift action in transferring Brig-Gen. Mohammed Gambo, the Commander of the 23 Armour Brigade, following the midnight invasion of the Police Headquarters in Yola, Adamawa State last month.

In a statement issued to the press, Amb. Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, the Country Director of the Commission, commended the Nigerian Army for its decisive decision, emphasizing its importance in deterring others from engaging in such reprehensible acts.

The statement further revealed that Brig-Gen. PK Zawaya would assume the command.

Bakoji equally urged all security forces in the country to collaborate and synchronize their operations to safeguard Nigeria’s peace and unity.

Additionally, in a related development, the Commission applauded Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State for his courageous intervention in rescuing a kidnap victim from the hands of kidnappers in Zaka village, Safana LGA of the state.

The Governor was present for the distribution of palliatives upon the invitation of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly when the incident occurred.

While appreciating Governor Radda’s bravery, Bakoji advised him to refrain from personally engaging in such battles. Instead, he suggested that the Governor coordinate operations from the office, directing security forces in their fight against bandits.

Bakoji referenced the Islamic Battle of Badr, highlighting the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who prevented him from joining the battle due to the outnumbered situation.

“Their concern was for his safety as the bearer of an important message for Humanity from Allah (SWT)” the Country Director noted.

Bakoji emphasized the Governor’s significance to the people of Katsina and the need to ensure his safety while continuing his vital administrative role.

The Commission’s acknowledgment of these events reflects their commitment to ensuring the safety of officials while advocating for effective measures against security threats.
