From Umar Dankano, Yola
The Adamawa State Government, in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), has flagged off the construction of a solar hybrid interconnected mini-grid project to provide electricity to three communities in the state.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Yola, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting greater private sector participation in the power sector to improve electricity access across the country.
The governor said his administration remains committed to addressing energy poverty through sustainable and renewable energy solutions. He also lauded the efforts of the Rural Electrification Agency, led by Abba Aliyu, for expanding electricity access nationwide.
Fintiri explained that the decision to site the solar hybrid interconnected mini-grids in Kofare, Mbamba, and Saminaka communities was deliberate, aimed at providing reliable electricity to underserved areas.
He described the project as a major milestone that will boost economic activities, improve healthcare and education services, and enhance the overall quality of life of residents in the benefiting communities.
According to the governor, the initiative is a direct outcome of the state’s engagement with the Rural Electrification Agency and renewable energy investors during the 2025 Empowering Adamawa Investment Roundtable held in Abuja.
He noted that the state created an investor-friendly environment by providing incentives, including free land, credit guarantees, and concessional financing, to attract renewable energy investments.
Fintiri further disclosed that more than 20 REA-approved solar mini-grid projects are currently being deployed across Adamawa to expand electricity access to additional communities.
He commended the collaboration between the Rural Electrification Agency, Mahashakti Nigeria Limited, and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for advancing sustainable energy development in the state.
The governor urged residents of Kofare, Mbamba, and Saminaka to protect the facilities, stressing that the project would serve as a catalyst for economic growth and community development across the benefiting communities.
