Adamawa: NLC Unveils FG’s CNG-Powered Buses for North-East
From Umar Dankano, Yola
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has called on the Adamawa State Government to urgently establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refilling stations to support the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles in the state.
Ajaero made this appeal in Yola on Friday during the unveiling ceremony of CNG-powered buses allocated to North-Eastern states under the Federal Government’s initiative to enhance the transportation sector.
He revealed that ten (10) CNG buses have been allocated to the region to ease transportation, similar to efforts made by the Federal Government in other parts of the country. However, he urged state governments in the region to complement this initiative for the benefit of their citizens.
The NLC president also appealed to the Federal Government to procure additional buses, emphasizing that the current allocation of ten buses is insufficient to meet the region’s transportation needs.
He commended the Adamawa State Government for maintaining a cordial relationship with the NLC and for its commitment to the welfare of civil servants.
Speaking at the event, which was held at the Mahmud Ribadu Square, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri lauded the Federal Government for providing the CNG-powered buses to the region and echoed the call for more.
Represented by Dr. Edgar Amos, Chief of Staff at the Government House, Fintiri also praised organized labour for its dedication to workers’ rights and welfare.
“As a government, we take the welfare of workers seriously. Over the past six years, we have ensured the payment of salaries on or before the 25th of every month.
“We have also purchased several buses to provide subsidized transportation for our people,” he stated.
He urged the NLC to remain united and always prioritize the interests of the common man in society.
In his remarks, the Adamawa State NLC Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, expressed optimism that the introduction of the CNG buses would help alleviate transportation challenges in the state.
Fashe also appreciated Governor Fintiri for his swift implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and for creating an enabling environment for the NLC to host its 2025 National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in the state.
