The Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, Doctor Bosun Tijani, has called on state governments and local council chairmen across the country to embrace technology and new innovations to drive digital development.
Speaking in Jos at the opening of the thirteenth Regular Meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Minister—who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engineer Nadungu Gagare—said the future is digital, but must be inclusive and sustainable.
He stressed that sustainable growth in the digital age depends on public trust in digital platforms, support for home-grown innovation, and strong regulatory frameworks.
Dr. Tijani acknowledged existing challenges in achieving inclusive digital transformation, but maintained they can be overcome with bold policies, sustained investment, and strong partnerships.
Declaring the five-day meeting open, Plateau State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Cletus Shurkuk, urged participants to engage deeply and share ideas that will strengthen innovation nationwide.
Dr. Shurkuk highlighted Plateau State’s progress in expanding broadband connectivity, improving ICT infrastructure, supporting tech hubs, and building digital skills among civil servants, youths, and entrepreneurs. He said the government believes innovation is a key driver of inclusive growth, job creation, and economic prosperity.
Our correspondent reports that delegates from all 36 states, officials of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and security agencies are attending the council meeting.
The 13th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy continues in Jos and will end on Friday with a communiqué.
