Akwa Ibom Police Command Cracks Down on Crime, Warns Criminals to Steer Clear

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime, making significant arrests and recovering stolen items across the state.

Addressing journalists at the State Police Command Headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to rid Akwa Ibom of criminal elements, declaring that the state is “too hot for criminals” and warning them to either turn a new leaf or leave.

In recent days, the Command has successfully dismantled several criminal networks. Among the notable achievements was the arrest of two burglary suspects in Eket, who confessed to breaking into a residence and carting away valuables, including a Toyota Camry, multiple LED televisions, home appliances, and jewelry. Law enforcement operatives also apprehended a suspect who broke into a church in Uyo, recovering a generator and burglary tools.

A raid on black spots in Ibeno led to the capture of a suspect found in possession of stolen building materials, including iron protectors and aluminum roofing sheets.

The police also cracked down on a child trafficking syndicate after a woman reported that her six-year-old daughter had been abducted. Investigations revealed that the primary suspect and her accomplice had previously sold their own child for ₦450,000. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives tracked them to Abuja, where they were arrested. Efforts are ongoing to locate the missing child and bring all involved to justice.

In a related development, the Command intensified operations against illicit drug dealers. Raids on known black spots led to the arrest of several suspects found in possession of hard drugs, including cocaine, cannabis, and other narcotics. A notorious cultist operating in Oron was also apprehended with cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

In another operation, police intercepted a suspect with fake foreign currency and hard drugs, further demonstrating the Command’s resolve to tackle financial crimes linked to drug-related offenses.

The crackdown extended to vehicle theft as police uncovered a tricycle theft syndicate, arresting six individuals involved in stealing and dismantling tricycles for sale. A stolen tricycle was recovered, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices.

DSP Timfon John reiterated the firm stance of the Command under CP Baba Mohammed Azare, emphasizing that there will be no negotiations with criminals.

He urged those engaged in criminal activities to desist immediately, warning that security operatives are closely monitoring their movements.

He also called on law-abiding residents to assist the police by providing credible intelligence, assuring them that their identities would remain confidential.

Reaffirming its dedication to public safety, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command assured residents that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted.

The police vowed to sustain efforts in making the state an unsafe haven for criminals while urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
